Why the heck is this called Weekly Photo Of The Month? Is it a weekly? Or monthly?
We were almost tempted to answer daily, or hourly. But in truth it is a weekly event. The name is simply designed to throw everyone off a bit! More commonly we simply refer to it as the WPOTM.
Okay, so what is it exactly?
It’s an event where each week a new theme is put forward. Generally they are simple themes like Cars, or Local Landmarks or Wet. Each participant is expected to submit a photograph that interprets that theme in some way.
Hmmmm? So what do you win?
Absolutely nothing! This is not a contest. This is not a competition. There is no judging. There are no prizes. There is simply the satisfaction of getting an assigned theme each week and interpreting it in our own way. The design and intent of this event is simply to provide a format to flex our photographic muscles.
That’s it?
Yep!
Okay, so what are the rules?
The “rules” are pretty simple actually. First the expectation is that we will take and submit a new photograph, not dig back in to our photo library for something we shot weeks, months or years ago. This entire event is designed to get us actively thinking and photographing on a regular basis, not to show off some great shot one of us captured in the past.
Who decides the themes for each week?
This yea's theme are borrowed from an Australian group who have a list called Capture 52.
How long do you have to submit an image?
For each week the new theme is announced by Sunday. Then will have that week (until Saturday) to take a photograph that matches that theme. For some of us it can be a simple process. For others it can involve travel, studio time, models, whatever suits the desire of the each photographer. Then images are shared by email on Saturday.
