9. Contrast - August 11-17, 2013
Deron-
This is my High-Contrast photo for your approval. I had other ideas, using the contrast color wheel, but once I came up with this, I knew this would be it!
These books belonged to Mrs. A.K. Peterson, Byron's grandmother and my great grandmother. The bottom book is entitled, Blodvidnerne, published in 1892 and written in Norwegian. According to the Luther Seminary Library, 'Christian martyrs' is it's subject.
The book on top is Grandma Peterson's Norwegian Bible, published in 1881. It's got little pencil check marks next to passages she must have liked. Pretty cool.

When Byron designated Contrast as the assignment at first I wanted to create an extremely low contrast image, much like a photo of fog and clouds that I shot a while back at a Maine Media Workshop. But of course there was absolutely no chance of fog in the current forecast, so I decided to go for the idea contrasting colors instead. This week I kept watching the skies hoping for a clear, cloudless day, I captured a backup shot yesterday with a sign, and a blue sky, but unfortunately a few clouds in the frame, But this morning the cloudless sky that had been promised for days finally happened. Of course a polarizing filter made both the sign, and the sky, even more intense. The exposure at ISO 200 was 1/320th of a second at f/5.6, with my 24-70mm Nikkor adjusted to 56mm.

I decided to contrast size instead of color or light levels. This is a picture of Chad and his wiener (dog). The camera was set at ISO 400, Focal length was 155mm, aperture f 5.6, shutter speed 1/200
