187. Snapshot - January 8-14, 2017
Kevin-
Is was necessary to spend some time to make my Nikon D4s as “snapshot” like as I could make it. First I placed the camera into Program exposure mode, probably the first time I have ever had it at that setting. Next I turned on “Auto-ISO” - certainly the first time my camera has been in that mode. I set autofocus to be triggered by the shutter button, rather than the AF button on the back of the camera. Then I started shooting whatever seemed interesting or potentially interesting. This included pre-sunrise scenes of the sky, photos of Squirt taken in the house as she protected her toy, photos of downtown Palm Springs including stores, signs, an abandoned theater, the Sony Bono sculpture, and a sculpture of a golfer titled “Chairman of the Links". There were also pedestrians photographed covertly, a woman texting as she waited for a street light to change and more. But ultimately I chose a shot of some bike racks as I appreciated the lines and colors on the rack and on the street and the hard shadows from the sunshine!
Nikon D4s, handheld, 24-120mm f/4 Nikkor VR lens set to 48mm, ISO 100, 1/200th of a second at f/7.1.
I am on “the other side of the country” right now, in Philadelphia for busy ACHA meetings. I will return to CA on Monday. So forgive me if it’s a few days before I can comment on other’s "Snapshots."

‘While sitting in the Hyatt Dallas waiting for a shuttle to DFW. 67% exhausted, 43% hungry and about 17% cracking jokes with strangers. Somehow, the math works out just right.
Details in a Snap: Moto XT1066 running Android (v5.1). ‘Way too hot in the middle, but I just wanted to take a snapshot and that’s what you’ve got. I tampered (no, I don’t mean “tinkered”) a bit in Lightroom and Photoscape. But not a lot, or with much creative effect.

I settled on this unflattering photo of a group of friends eating at Davanni's because it was, um, not the typical posed group of friends photo. I was fooling with the camera while it was sitting on the table and no one knew what I was really up to. And I will keep this image from going any farther. But the people do look like they are enjoying themselves without being too self conscious.
This was the Sony A6300 with 16-50 set to 16mm. Program mode, 1/60 @ F4, ISO 800.

I took a snapshot of an unlikely scenario. There has been a multi-day rain in Palm Springs. Thursday evening, before it got too dark, I went downtown and took my snapshot to show the near desertion of an otherwise bustling area. It was Thursday evening and the city was about to block off the area for street fair. There were far less people and far more rain than you would expect.
ISO 400, f5, 1//30 sec, camera was set to Aperture priority mode.
