18. Creepy - October 13-19, 2014
Paul-
Well of course you know the walrus. What a rolly-polly, jolly fellow he is! With whiskers and tusk, with blubber and musk, he makes his way about along the beach to the delight of the children. How he waddles and snorts…flippers flipping, massive cheeks rippling. And everyone laughs.
Until dark.
When the tusks sharpen. The eyes darken. The hide grows course, his merry grunts, hoarse. The nostrils flare. Gads, what a scare!
Walrus is hungry…
The sordid details: October 18, 2013, 8:54PM, 1/3 second at f3.8, focal length: 19mm, ISO 400, no flash (two red incandescent bulbs were used)
“Well here's another clue for you all
The walrus was Paul”

Byron-
My submission is of a creepy guy in a creepy shed of some sort. He's not the kind of guy you want to be locked in a room with. He was photographed with an iPhone. Focal length 4.1 mm, f/2.4 at 1/20 sec.

You may recall that during the week that Paul designated "cemetery" as the theme I said that I wished I was in Palm Springs, CA - as I could have driven down to the Salton Sea to photograph a "graveyard" of dead Tilapia.
We'll, I'm in California this week, and since Deron designated the theme "creepy" I realized it was an even better opportunity to make the trip down to the Salton Sea to photograph just a single tilapia. It's a drive of a little over an hour, so I departed at 5:30 in the morning to arrive around sunrise, scouted out a few places, and captured a number of images. But my favorite was first shot that I captured. At ISO 200 my exposure was 1/1250th of a second at f/2.8 using my 24-70mm zoom set to 70mm. Despite the fast shutter speed the camera was tripod mounted so that I could be careful with focus and get that locked in. The image is fairly cropped (about what I would have gotten if I had set my Nikon to APS-C crop mode) since I lack a true macro lens, or even a bellows assembly like Byron has! Those tilapia teeth might worry you, but the smell from the Salton Sea would probably concern you more. Actually I was lucky as the breeze was blowing the other way, until the last half hour that I was there.

Well, once again, I am at the mercy of my models (I guess my neighbors didn't want to be associated with 'creepy'). We planned to shoot tonight, but I haven't heard from them, so I must submit my back up shot.
This is my friend, Bobby... He ACTUALLY looks like this. Alright, I may have had a hand in making him creepy.
