28. Food - December 22-28, 2013

I did my best to capture an image that was in the style of photos used in the Modernist Cuisine cookbooks. Now most of those photos were taken against black backgrounds and many involved cut-away shots of items like grills, pans, ovens, etc, plus the food, plus compositing of multiple exposures - all things that are beyond what WPOTM is supposed to be about. But some of those incredible images were shot against pure white backgrounds in a relatively simple way, which is what I tried to do here.
These are simply fruit (lemon, lime, orange and kiwi) slices laying on tracing paper which in turn is on a sheet of suspended glass. There were two Nikon flash units below the glass, set to 1/32 power, lighting the tracing paper close to pure white, and one more Nikon flash unit above the slices (set to 1/4 power) bounced down to make sure the surface of the fruit was appropriately detailed.
The exposure was 1/250th of a second at f/11. ISO 200. My 24-70mm Nikkor lens set to 70mm. Tripod mounted of course.

Ok, my submission is not up to the standards of the rest of yours. I haven't had much time to devote to
the topic.
I thought this meal was a clever fusion. Mexican/Norwegian . It turns out the lefse was a tortilla- who knew?

This poor little Polar Bear was sent to his room without dinner. Apparently, he got into the Arctic Puffin Sprinkles and, without opposable thumbs, he spilled them all over himself and the floor. Mom was preparing a delish Narwhal stew and Arctic Puffin Sprinkles go perfectly with that dish. By the way, Puffin Sprinkles taste just like bacon bits!
He was made with CalRose rice, uncooked black beans, a little buffalo wing sauce and fine black pepper. His blanket is a couple of eggs, oregano and crushed red pepper made into an omelet. And for dessert, his pillow is a piece of white bread flattened by a rolling pin, then turned into a Little Deron Norwegian Snack Roll with a little butter, white sugar and Lingonberry jelly.

Some hardboiled eggs are harder boiled than others. (The lighting wasn’t exactly right, and I'm not sure this image captures what I was trying to convey...still, it was fun.)
The usual suspects: Olympus E500; 14.0mm-45.0mm (f3.5) lens; 1/13 sec. at f4.6; bracketed; ISO 200; no flash; tripod used. None got on my face.
